Ride to School Day
It was wonderful to see over 60 students riding their bike or scooter to school for Ride to School Day on 21 March and absolutely fantastic to see that every child had a helmet. The local council gave us a box of fruit for our bike and scooter riders.
A big thank you to Remy J (5G), Xavier B (5G) and Ahan V (5G), who were the bike monitors and helped parents and students navigate the safest place to park their bikes and scooters.

NSW Public Schools Student Surveys
In Term 2, we are offering our Years 3-6 students the opportunity to participate in the NSW Public Schools Student Survey. The survey gives students the chance to share their thoughts and feelings about life at school, including questions about their engagement, learning experiences and wellbeing at school.
Hearing directly from our students will help us understand what’s working well and where improvements can be made to our school. The survey is confidential, takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and will be conducted online during school hours.
Participation is voluntary. If you prefer your child not to participate, please complete the opt-out consent form, which will be sent home, and return it to the school. Further information about the survey is available at https://education.nsw.gov.au/npss.
Harmony Day
Thank you to teachers Monique Jamgotchian, Caroline Cady and Ginny Lim who organised our whole school Harmony Day. It was lovely to see our students in national costume or wearing orange, the symbolic colour of Harmony Week. We have over 50 nationalities in our school so Harmony Week gives us an opportunity to recognise the cultures of all students within our school. Thank you to the following parents who shared their culture within the classrooms:
Lia Sugarevski, James Ding, Julia Fu, Anita Zhang, Cathal Mitchell, Xiai Sun, Cici Li, Shi Cui, Xiaomin Zhang, Olivia Stennett, Jenny Wong, Michelle Taylor and Lynette Chen.

Persian New Year
Thank you to the Persian community who spent so much time creating a small card for every child to explain the traditions of Persian New Year. Norwruz, the Persian New Year, celebrates the arrival of spring and new beginnings (Northern hemisphere).

K-2 Kindness Crew
The K-2 Kindness Crew are a wonderful group of Year 2 students who meet with Mrs Shacham every week to plan ways to spread kindness around our school. Congratulations to the Kindness Crew on this wonderful initiative. It was all their own idea! This is what they had to say about their important work:
The kindness crew cares for people who are looking for friends. We also care for boys and girls in Kindy. We are the opposite of bullying. We help each other, we never give up and we encourage children to be kind. We stomp out bullying. We make our school a bully free zone by patrolling the playground regularly to look for people who are doing the right thing and being kind to others. We are going to look out for children who are being kind on the playground and the teacher will give them an R card for 'respect'.

Respect: I keep school a safe place by respecting instructions and school rules.
What does this look like?
- I respect shared spaces including the bathrooms and hallways
- I don’t distract my friends and allow them to learn
- I play in the right area to keep myself and others safe
The character strength of teamwork will help me to respect instructions and school rules inside the classroom and on the playground.

Captains Attending a Pittwater Network Meeting
On Wednesday 26 March 2025, the school captains: Myra G (6GC) and Sachin A (6GC) were selected to attend a Director’s Pittwater network meeting with other student leaders in the area. The meeting aimed at tackling project-based challenges among a cluster of schools. This was to enhance the student voice within the community.
Myra and Sachin’s Experience
I had an amazing experience at the Pittwater Network in the Dee Why Education Office. Many primary and high school leaders gathered together to discuss many transitions from years in the past. Some ideas were the Kindy and Year 6 buddy programs, and from Year 6 to high school preparations. We also mentioned things we would add to government schools to make it a better place. I really enjoyed how all of us got to introduce ourselves by walking around the office and asking some questions about each other. It was great how we got to share our ideas in the end with the other student leaders. We were also given morning tea such as lollies and fruits and I loved that as well.
Myra G (6GC)
At the leadership meeting we talked about transitions in school. These included Year 2-3 transitions, Year 6-7 transitions and Year 12-University/job. We discussed what students would feel during these transitions. We came up with things like sadness, anxiety, confusion, fear and being overwhelmed. We then talked about what the schools do to help students transition without any of these negative emotions. Ideas that popped up included having a buddy, orientation days and having periods prior to the transition. We then discussed what other ideas they could use which included having one on one interviews with your teacher/s, having mock high school days (the same as a normal high school day) and having more activities for kids to do.
In addition, we went around and asked people what their favourite ice cream flavour was and if they have any pets. This was simply to get to know each other a bit better. A little while later we went around again and asked what school they went to and what are the characteristics of a leader. After that we voted for someone to represent the Pittwater Network and then we had morning tea and said goodbye.
Sachin A (6GC)

Cancer Council Sunsmart: Think UV not Heat
With autumn in full swing, it's important to remember: think UV, not heat.
Sun damage is caused by UV radiation, which is different from the sun's thermal radiation (heat). The heat wave last month illustrated this difference: Sydney temperatures reached 36°C on one day and only 22°C the next day, yet the UV forecast for both days was very high at UV 8.5.
When the UV index is 3 or above, sun protection is recommended for all skin types. Ensure that children and employees use a combination of sun protection measures—clothing, hats, sunscreen, shade, and sunglasses—when outdoors. Download the free SunSmart Global UV app to check the current and forecasted UV in your area.
