Cyberbullying
The use of online devices has seen an increase in Cyber Bullying throughout the world. A number of parents have let me know about some absolutely horrible online chat groups that contain nasty comments about others as well as a lot of swearing. These online forums serve no purpose. Make sure you are aware of what your child is doing online and are able to read any posts or group chats.
Here is some information from the E-Safety Commissioner. https://www.esafety.gov.au/
Cyberbullying is when someone is mean to a child or young person online so they feel bad or upset. Online bullying can be devastating for young people, whose online activities are a key part of their identity and how they communicate. It can include online hate, trolling, harassment and threats.
Key points:
- If your child is experiencing online hate or bullying, you might feel like you want to stop them using devices, but that can mean they miss out on important experiences (see the website above for more information).
- Children and young people are better able to cope with cyberbullying when they have the support of at least one trusted adult.
- Parents can help their child deal with the bullying by listening to them, collecting evidence like screenshots, helping them to report abuse to the game, app or social media service where it’s happening, and supporting them to get help from counselling services like Kids Helpline (https://kidshelpline.com.au/).
- If the cyberbullying is severe and the platform doesn’t help, eSafety can help remove content shared online, and provide more support.
K - 2 Cola
The new rubber surface of our K -2 Cola is now complete. It looks fantastic and the gorgeous blue reflects onto the roof and gives the whole COLA a much lighter and welcoming feel.

Anzac Day Memorial Service
Thank you to Ms Cady for her wonderful organisation of our Anzac Day Ceremony here at school. Thank you also to Mr Gorrrie, our deputy principal, who took some of our school leaders to the Dawn Service at Roseville. That was a very special event for our leaders and it is so important for our students to understand and value the significance of Anzac Day.

Easter Parade
Another wonderful Easter Hat Parade at the end of last term. Thank you to all families who attended and thank you to Ms Jamgotchian for organising the wonderful dancing that followed the parade. The hats looked wonderful and I know all of the students enjoyed watching the parade.

P&C Election BBQ
Thanks to all of the parents and grandparents who helped on the BBQ, Face painting and cake stall on Saturday 3 May. Thank you also to the parents who donated cakes. It brings a wonderful sense of community to the voting centre and adds so much to the day.

Kindness Crew
How lucky we are to have students at our school who are thinking of others and how to make our school even better. A small group of students in Year 2 and another group of students in Year 4, approached us to ask if they could set up a Kindness Team to help others who may feel lonely in the playground. We have decided to call the two groups the K -2 Kindness Crew and the 3-6 Kindness Crew. These wonderful students will be out in the playground wearing a blue cap that says ‘Kindness Crew’ so they will be easily recognisable. If you need a friend, you can approach our Kindness Crew who are there to help you.

Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 16 May 2025
Now in its 26th year, National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual event when all primary school children will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a community event seeking to promote road safety, health, public transport, and the environment.
Apart from the physical benefits, regular walking also has a favourable impact on children's cognitive and academic performance.
Walk Safely to School Day also encourages positive environmental action, better use of public transport with reduced car-dependency and encourages parents and carers to walk more, reducing dangerous traffic congestion around schools.
Harold Scruby, CEO of the Pedestrian Council of Australia said that "until they are 10, children must always hold the hand of an adult when crossing the road".
Please see the flyers below on how to get involved in Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 16 May.

Be Bus Aware
Transport for NSW wants to remind motorists about Bus Flashing Lights. Parents and carers play an important part in keeping children safe around roads by:
- Sticking to the speed limit and following the road rules in school zones.
- Slowing down to 40km/h when bus lights are flashing, unless a lower speed limit applies.
- Looking out for children crossing the road near bus stops, in school zones or along bus routes.
- Giving way to buses when they merge back into traffic.

Responsibility: I take care of my belongings in the classroom and on the playground.
What does this look like?
- I clearly label all my belongings.
- When playing outside, I place my belongings in my class tub, not on the ground.
- I check my area for my belongings before I move on.
The character strength of self-regulation will help me to take care of my belongings in the classroom and on the playground.
K-6 Years News
Congratulations
The Arts Unit offers many opportunities to high potential students. One of these opportunities is to perform at the Town Hall and Opera House in a variety of concerts and many of our students take part. This year, two of our students auditioned to be student comperes for these concerts and they were both successful. Congratulations to Myra G and Rachel G both in 6GC. Myra and Rachel will join our senior choir at the Festival of Choral Music as comperes for the evening.

Good News
School Crossing Supervisor
Here is an email from an appreciative parent about Max, our School Crossing Supervisor:
I’ve been meaning to write for some time to say what a good job our crossing man is doing in the mornings. He is very vigilant, looking up and down all the time, ensuring the safety of everyone. He also balances getting everyone into the school gate safely with managing the traffic build up at the kiss and pick zone really well, which I truly appreciate as this was not always so well done in the past.
Anyway, I thought he deserved to know that we appreciate his efforts and that they do not go unnoticed.

Sport News
Soccer
Carter S (5N) and his team, Prodigy Football Academy were the Division 1 Winners of the U/10 Independent Football Australia National Cup. 23 teams competed in the U/10s from 14-17 April and it was hosted by the Western Sydney Wanderers at Rooty Hill.
Congratulations Carter on a great achievement.

P&C News
Message from SINPS P&C President
Welcome back to Term 2. It has been a busy term already for our P&C team and volunteers organising and delivering multiple events already. A massive thanks to all our volunteers, without whom the P&C could not deliver events to enhance the SINPS experience for our students, families and community. Our volunteers are also integral to us being able to raise funds for the P&C which allow us to complete projects around the school and provide our students with extra resources and facilities to enhance their learning and school experience.
Last week we had our Mother’s Day stall and raffle. We hope that all mothers, grandmothers and special people enjoyed their gifts. The students certainly had fun choosing something special for you. This year we also ran a raffle which proved to be very well received. Thanks to Kate Kirk, our wonderful Treasurer, who sourced some amazing prizes from our very generous local businesses. The stall and the raffle raised $5,800 for the school.
On Saturday 3 May we were able to welcome the community to our school for a democracy sausage with our awesome Election Day sausage sizzle and bake sale. We even had our own creative Fundraising Coordinator, Ally Keramea, creating some beautiful face painting designs. It was really positive to see so many local community members who were so keen to visit and support the school. Thank you to all who contributed by cooking sausages, serving customers, baking goods - you helped us to raise $3,300 with this event. A special shout out to Julie Samowitz, our amazing canteen manager, for your help with this, and all the P&C events.
At the end of Term 1 we had the Colour Fun Run on Wednesday 2 April. The decision was made to bring the event in-house and use an affordable flat-fee model rather than ask families to fundraise, acknowledging time pressures and the current cost of living. This model proved successful as the kids were still able to enjoy the mass of colour on the run, and we raised $7000 for the school. Thanks to Ally Keramea and Kate Kirk for organising this event and our wonderful volunteers on the day.
We also had an Easter raffle this year, thanks to a generous Kindy family approaching the P&C to donate the prize. The raffle was held during the school's Easter Hat Parade with our brand new raffle barrel, allowing our students to engage with the raffle. It was lots of fun and it again helped to raise $2,000 for the school.
Thank you also to Ava Supermarket for their sponsorship of the Persian New Year celebrations in Term 1 and apologies that this was omitted from the previous newsletter.
