K - 2 Sports Carnival
Congratulations to the K - 2 staff for organising such a fabulous K - 2 sports carnival on Thursday 12 June. A VERY BIG thank you to Miss Burger who was the driving force behind the carnival and organised the program and logistics for the day. Thank you also to our Sports In Schools teachers who supported us on the day. If you haven't already, please consider paying for your child’s weekly Sports in School annual fee to support the program.

Parent Information Session on Teaching Reading K - 2
We had over 60 parents attend our Reading Workshop in the library, prior to the K - 2 Sports Carnival on Thursday 12 June. The meeting was designed to explain the process of teaching reading and the different components to a balanced literacy program. We also explained the home reading program and the new log book the students will be using. A copy of the slides as well as the newsletter explaining the program was sent to every family on Thursday.
The change to the program was enabled because we have been able to purchase $10,000 worth of new decodable readers that can be used for the home reading program. This was purchased using the voluntary contribution funds that many of our families have contributed to. So thank you for your support!

Band Camp
It was a pleasure to attend the culminating concert on Sunday 15 June for our annual band camp. Our students are so talented and we are also very lucky to have our high quality band conductors and tutors working with our children.
A huge thank you to our amazing parent committee. Without their dedication, the band camp would not happen. A big thank you to all parents who stayed over to supervise the children as well. A special thank you to Dr Marni Basto for volunteering to be the camp doctor for the duration of the camp. And a super thank you to the organising committee:
Ali Shahnazi, Val Naganayagam, Lisa Beswick, Kaoru Takusagawa, Kate Farquharson, Kate Kirk, Kerry Malkani, Olivia Sun, Vivien Wong.
This is Ali's last band camp as his daughter will be moving to high school next year. Ali has been the Band President as well as co-organising the last 6 band camps. A fabulous effort! So a special thank you to Ali.

Resilience: I understand that sometimes I will need to be flexible, consider others and accept the structure of a game.
What does this look like?
- I think before I act.
- I accept outcomes, whether I win or lose.
- I resolve disagreements calmly.
The character strengths of flexibility and perspective will help me be resilient when I am working or playing with others in the classroom and on the playground.

Multicultural Speech Final
On Thursday 19 June, Zoe P (4T), Alfred S (4M), Myra G (6GC) and Sophia S (6H) participated in the final for the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition at Beaumont Road Public School.
Anxiety filled my body - it was time to speak. Everyone’s eyes were on me. As I gave my speech, I didn’t feel just nervous; I also felt excited. I was determined to reach my goal. Thanks to the practice I did at home and the support from my school, I found the courage to be brave. With everyone cheering me on and believing in me, I didn’t want to let them down.
Even though I didn’t win, I conquered my own fear - and that’s what truly matters. Even if I had won, I would still be full of gratitude for those who helped improve my speech: my teachers, principals, friends, and family. With all their support behind me, I felt proud - especially when my mum surprised me with a giant penguin!
I’ve learned so much from this experience - speech techniques, facial expressions, and how to face my fears. Even though I was extremely nervous, I did it - for myself, my family, and everyone who was counting on me. This journey turned my frown into a smile. It showed me the path to happiness and led me to a moment where I could proudly say, “I did it.”

Lights Up Drama Festival
What a wonderful evening Harrison F (4P) and I had performing at the Lights Up Drama Festival at Chatswood Concourse on Wednesday 18 June. We were part of a drama ensemble made up of 20 Year 4-6 students from public schools around the Sydney North region and we rehearsed together over the past couple of months to create a play.
Our play was called, "The Phone", and revolved around 20 young students who travel back in time, discovering how different reality was when people genuinely communicated, unlike how people are addicted to phones in the modern day. The play started with our journey by traveling back in time to a railway station, then snapped into the 2025 reality. After that, we wove through a mixture of scenes set in "olden times" and finally the phone itself congratulated us on our journey.

Music Update
Music Camp 2025
What an unforgettable Music Camp 2025!
I’m excited to share that this year’s Music Camp was an extraordinary success — a true celebration of music, teamwork, and community spirit.
We had the privilege of hosting 170 enthusiastic students who immersed themselves in 1.5 days of rehearsals, tutorials, performances, and joyful memories. Their energy and commitment to learning were truly inspiring.
Guiding them were 18 talented conductors and tutors, whose passion and expertise brought out the best in our young musicians. Their mentorship helped shape an enriching musical journey for every student involved.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our parent volunteers. A heartfelt thank you to the 136 parents who collectively contributed over 700 hours of volunteer work throughout the camp. From preparing meals and supervising cabins to managing logistics and offering encouragement, your efforts created the warm, supportive atmosphere that our students thrived in.
In the lead-up to camp and during the camp, our core committee dedicated an incredible 40 days of combined effort to plan and coordinate every detail. From logistics and schedules to accommodation and meals, their behind-the-scenes work laid the foundation for a smooth and successful camp. Their preparation ensured that once we arrived, everything ran like clockwork — allowing students and staff to focus fully on music and connection.
A big thank you to our amazing core team — I’m truly honoured to have worked with each of you (listed in no particular order):
Val Naga, Kaoru Takusagawa, Kate Kirk, Lisa Beswick, Vivien Wong, Kate Farquharson, Karla Hollitzer, Marni Basto, Kerry Malkani, Cathy Yu, Celina Biguetti, Olivia Sun, Sophia Bonnar, Audrey Jiang, Vivian Yang, Michelle Taylor and Bahareh Barati.
Your leadership, creativity, and reliability formed the backbone of this event. We are deeply grateful for your time and talent.
We were also honoured by the visit of Mrs Taylor, Mr Gorrie, Mrs Howe and Roshell Boulton who made the journey to join us and show their continued support for our program.
More than just a music experience, the camp reminded us of the power of community — students, staff, and families coming together to create something truly special.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Music Camp 2025 a meaningful and memorable event.

Chamber Strings Shine at Sydney Eisteddfod
Congratulations to Chamber Strings, who won 1st Place at the Sydney Eisteddfod Primary School Acoustic Ensemble event with an impressive score of 95!
Performing without a conductor, the talented seven-member group relied on teamwork and musical connection to present two iconic pieces from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky — Trepak and Waltz of the Flowers, arranged by their conductor, Adrian Mansukhani.
The adjudicator praised the group’s “terrific introduction from the stage,” and described their intonation as “very solid, indeed very impressive.” He also commended their ability to perform challenging passages with style and maturity, calling the performance “really impressive work.”
Well done to our young musicians for their hard work and incredible achievement! And a heartfelt thank you to the parents for supporting their children's musical journey.

TAFE NSW St Leonards Campus runs free English classes from Beginner to Advanced level, which may be of interest to the members in the community whose English is not their first language. Please see the flyers below for more information about our free English courses starting in July 2025.
Our English courses are NSW or Federal Government subsidised, so they are at no cost to Australian citizens, permanent residents and certain temporary or bridging visa holders (subject to eligibility check) to improve English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. They have been a great way for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to connect and involve themselves in the community, either online or face to face, and have certainly improved communication skills of the residents who come from non-English speaking backgrounds.
